The 4th annual Fall Art Crawl, set for Friday, October 23, 2015 in Zachary, will be a celebration of the arts featuring the works of local and regional artists, jewelry artisans, high school students, live music, wine-tasting, food and fun for all ages. Zachary’s Business and Historic Districts provide the backdrop for the evening with more than 20 businesses and historic locations opening their doors and extending their hours for the event.
The Fall Art Crawl is organized and hosted by the Regional Arts Council of Zachary. Art Crawl event co-chairman Marjorie Moore said that attendees will find an exciting variety of old and new attractions. “All our previous ingredients are still here with a few new and exciting flavors,” Moore said. “Come on out and enjoy a night on the town!”
The “crawl” begins at 6 p.m. and patrons can navigate the stops at their leisure until 9 p.m. The works of more than 30 artists and groups of student artists will be on display and for sale. A wide range of art mediums will be featured including oil, acrylic, watercolors, and wood-working.
Participating artists are Madison Petty, Della Storms, Russell Dietrich, Marc Girouard, Rebecca Bennett, Pam Kaster, Grace Thompson, Jill Mulkey, Patrick Tiek, Courtney Yoes, Emily Hurst, Arlyn Munson, Jenny Mills Musacchia, Jeana Esser, Timothy Kleinpeter, Susan Dubinsky, Stacie James, the late Cherry Boudreaux, Connie Ashford, Milton Vines, Charles Coward, Brooke Desrocher, Calyn Knight, Merriann Hornsby, Sharon Furrate, Joy Petty and Dixie Rose Taylor.
Parking is available along the route and at City Hall Annex. Patrons can visit the Zachary Train Depot, where RACZ members will distribute maps and event information and a silent auction sponsored by the Zachary Artists Guild will be held from 6 to 8:30 p.m.
Participants can choose to “crawl by cab” with the assistance of a fleet of pedicabs that will provide free rides across the business and historic district. Child care, ages 4 and older, during the three-hour event will be provided at Zachary Karate for $15 per child with special family rates available.
LeBlanc’s Food Store will sponsor free wine-tasting at the Pavilion located in Zachary’s Historic Village on Virginia Street. This location will also provide the home for one of the Art Crawl’s new features, the Jewelry Rowe. The pavilion will be surrounded by seven artisans specializing in handcrafted jewelry and accessories.
Participating jewelry artisans are Brittaney Allen, Ana Maria Andricain, Emily Bowers, Katie Jenkins, Rose Landry, Tom Lorio, Babeth Schlegel and Alena Vinet.
Another 2015 first will be a judged art show featuring the Talented Art program students of Zachary High School and Woodlawn High in Baton Rouge. The high school art show will be held at the Music Tree Prep School, 4833 Church Street. Lee Randall, Gifted and Talented Art teacher from Runnels Academy will judge the art show.
Adding to the showcasing of student work, the Zachary High and Zachary Career and Technical Center Carpentry Class will display at the wooden eagle statue next to the gazebo where Church and High streets come to a merging point.
Live music from solo acts and groups will be spread throughout the event route. The nine musical acts are Brandon Routh, Michele Willis, Denton Hatcher, Mik Salem, John Kirby, Jazz Soul, Tanner Stockton, Tiny Horse Productions and the Children’s Choir.

The Regional Arts Council of Zachary is seeking volunteers to assist with the 4th annual Fall Art Crawl to be held Friday, Oct. 23 from 6 -9 p.m.The Art Crawl is a free community event that pairs local businesses with area artists at several sites along the Zachary business and historic districts.

Harry Anderson and Friends, a six-member jazz ensemble, will perform in a casual bistro-style setting Tuesday, June 23 at the Pointe at Americana. The group is directed by Harry Anderson, director of the Alvin Batiste Jazz Institute at Southern University. Anderson has accompanied Wynton Marsalis, the Harper Brothers, Irene Reed, and the well-known local great, Alvin Batiste.
Anderson, a resident of Zachary, has performed with such greats as Dizzy Gillespie, Itzhak Perlman, Peggy Lee, the Ink Spots, the Four Aces, Connie Jones, the Sherills, and James Brown. He has performed at renowned venues around the world that include the Lincoln Center, the Apollo, the Town Hall, the Village Vanguard, and Carnegie Hall.
The jazz ensemble includes noted artists Glenn Parker, guitar; Rodrick Paulin, saxophone; Thaddeus Richard, keyboard; Herman Jackson, drums; and Ernest Jackson, vocalist.
The Regional Arts Council of Zachary is a community partner supporting visual and performing arts and art education in Zachary and its surrounding area. The Council is partnering with the Pointe, the newly-opened venue of the Americana traditional neighborhood development.

Donna Kilbourne’s entry, “Sand Supervisor,” received top adult honors in the 2015 Regional Arts Council of Zachary’s Judged Art Show held in conjunction with Zachary’s ZFest activities. Student 1st place winners were Jessie Yantis with “Night-lock” and Janae D’Arensbourg who received the top Under Glass award for her work “The Lion.”
Madison Deckman’s “Rainbow Cheetah garnered the most votes from ZFest participants and received the People’s Choice Awards.
Renowned artist Della Storm judged the art show. Storm, an award-winning artist, has works in many fine art galleries including The Cottage Fine Arts and Framing in Zachary. RACZ board member Margaret Harmon served as arts show chairman and coordinator.
Adult winners are 1st place, Donna Kilbourne; 2nd place, Connie Ashford; and 3rd place, Raye Dry. Student winners are 1st place Under Glass, Janae D’Arensbourg; 1st place, Jessie Yantis; 2nd place, Madison Deckman; and 3rd place, Angelle Carter.

Local adult and student artists are encouraged to prepare entries for the annual Regional Arts Council of Zachary Juried Art Show during ZFest which will be held April 29 through May 3.
Entry forms are available below. Participants should complete this entry form, bring payment, if applicable, and the artwork to the BREC Pavilion building in the Zachary Community Park, 20055 Old Scenic Highway, Zachary, LA, on May 1st between 4 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.
Awards and prizes will be given in four categories: Adults Under Glass, Adults Not Under Glass, Age 12-17 and Under 11. A combination of cash awards, certificates and RACZ memberships will be awarded. Please see Web site for complete listing of awards.
The 9th annual Zachary Arts & Music Festival will be a weekend full of activities for all art and music lovers. There will be various genres of music filling the BREC Zachary Community Park. Food and merchandise will be for sale from several vendors.
